Reconciliation

The one identity the whole product rests on, and what each way of breaking it means.

One identity, per account and then across the year:

opening + credits - debits - closing = 0

When that is zero, every rupee that entered or left is accounted for. When it is not, something is missing, duplicated, or in the wrong direction — and no amount of categorizing will fix it.

Own-account transfers

Moving your own money between your own accounts is neither income nor expense. A confirmed transfer pair is excluded from both sides of every total, which is why the reconciliation figures are gross and the pair does not inflate them.

The app proposes pairs; you confirm or reject them. It will not confirm one for you, because two coincidentally equal amounts on the same day are a real thing.

Reading the gap

  • A gap the size of one transaction — usually a missing statement page or a row that failed to parse.
  • A gap that is exactly twice an amount — normally a transfer counted on both sides instead of paired.
  • A small, odd gap — check the opening balance you typed. A derived opening that was wrong about row one's direction produces exactly this.

Provisional rows

Rows entered as estimates because a statement could not be obtained are marked guessed and tinted amber throughout. Any total they feed is an estimate too, and the app says so on the face of every document that uses them.

Try it on your own year

Import a statement and see the balance chain verify it. The free tier is enough to find out whether this suits you.
